Franklin Barbecue is legendary in the world of barbecue. Founded by James Beard Award-winning Pit Master Aaron Franklin and his wife Stacy, Franklin Barbecue is as famous for its mouth-watering brisket as it is for long lines. A long-time client of NDS, we have taken on many web and digital projects for Franklin. Recently we relaunched a redesign of their primary website, as well as a signup page for their groundbreaking custom-made smokers.
Franklin Barbecue website was long in need of an overhaul. The site was built back when they were just selling meat out of a food truck and hadn't kept up with the demands of their fans. We redesigned the site to give users quick and easy access to everything from events to their menu on any device. Although many restaurants fall back on PDFs to publish menus, we took particular care to craft a responsive one for Franklin that looks as good as everything tastes.
Aaron Franklin has produced two seasons of his show BBQ with Franklin, including ten episodes with PBS station KLRU Austin. Previous this content was difficult to find without searching Youtube. In strategizing the new website, we provided a framework for Franklin to highlight not only the BBQ with Franklin tv show, but also Aaron’s Barbecue book, and the Franklin Barbecue merchandise store.
In 2018, Franklin Barbecue will start selling Franklin BBQ Pits, hand-made smokers built and assembled in Central Texas. We designed a teaser page for interested folks to signup to buy a smoker using MailChimp. In the first week, it was active, and we had nearly 3,000 sign-ups. And over the first three months of the campaign, we've added close to 1,500 sign-ups every month.
Franklin Barbecue‘s lines are the stuff of legend. When Franklin first reached out to us for help, out brief was to create a custom e-commerce website to handle their preorder traffic. Initially, the Franklin team were taking preorders over email on the 1st of every month. The preorder system we designed and developed with CraftCMS Commerce helped them to increase the preorders by nearly 10x the number of orders. The preorder system has been so popular that they added a separate trailer to serve their preorder customers exclusively.
